Yes it is true! Miracles happen.
Our family has been associated with Nanaksar sampraday ( one
of the schools of Sikhism) for about 100 years since the times of its founder
Baba Nand Singhji .
Though,all the sangis
(devotees) of Nanaksar have been showered with spiritual and material
blessings, a few have had such experiences which appear unbelievable to many.
I tell you a true
story as told by my late uncle (tayaji) S Kirpal Singh. The year was most
probably 1965. Baba Ishar Singh who had succeeded Baba Nand Singhji had planned
to build a 13 storied Gurudwara Nanaksar
building at his birthplace in village Jhoradan in Ludhiana district of Punjab
to commemorate his first meeting with his mentor Baba Nand Singh who visited
this village during his preaching tours. This place was about twelve miles from the
main Nanaksar Gurdwara, the headquarters of the sampraday located at village
Kaleran near the township of Jagraon in Punjab.
However, when only basement and ground floor was ready, Baba
Ishar Singh departed for his heavenly abode. The news of this upcoming Nanaksar
made many devotees curious about this place who wanted to visit the same. In
those days there were hardly any network of roads in the Punjab countryside.
There were only unpaved pathways passing through agricultural fields. People
travelled mostly either on tractor
trolleys or on foot.
My uncle who lived in Delhi used to visit Nanaksar Kaleran
every year on the barsi (anniversary) of Baba Nand Singhji which falls in the month
of August. After the barsi commemoration he thought of visiting the place at
Jhordan. He set out on foot for the visit .It was a long journey. The summer sun
was shining brightly which made the journey very tiresome. By the time he
reached the place and visited the Gurudwara he was very tired and hungry. He
looked for some eatery but there was none.
He rested there for some time and set out for return journey in the
afternoon.
He had travelled a few miles and his craving for food had
peaked by now. Suddenly, he heard someone calling him, “Singh ji please stop”. My
uncle told that he turned back and saw a person dressed like a bihangam calling
him. (Bihangams are resident devotees at Nanaksar headquarter who fallow a
strict regiment of discipline and a dress code) The bihangam took him to a
room near by in the field where there was another bihangam who gave him four
prasadas (Indian flat bread) and some
kheer (sweet rice and milk pudding). Hungry as he was, my uncle started eating
the food fondly. After he had finished he just looked up and before he could
thank the provider the whole setup -the room and the bihangams- just vanished
in the thin air. My uncle was left alone standing in the sun with no one else
on the stretch of pathway as far as he could see. He knew well in his heart what
he had just experienced was a just a miracle created by Babaji to feed his
devotee. My uncle kept this anecdote to himself for a long time fearing no one
will just believe him. But a few days
before his death, he revealed this to my father who told me the story a
recently and I thought it fit share with the people at large.
Now whatever you make out of it, the miracles keep happening
from time to time, however rare.
